There are so many people who cannot speak.They say it’s less than 10%.
If you want to ask something or communicate with a Japanese person, it is recommended that you use words and gestures instead of writing.
And the important thing is to say “sumimasen(Excuse me)” in Japanese.
Even if I don’t understand English, it makes me want to listen to the story for the time being.
If it were me, I’d either try to understand in words, or use a translation app…

日本人に何か尋ねたりコミュニケーションを取りたい場合は、文章ではなく単語とジェスチャーで伝えることをお勧めします。
それと重要なのは、「すみません」と日本語で話しかけることです。
英語はわからなくても、とりあえず話は聞いてみようと思わせてくれます。
